De Smet - Fred Muilenburg, 81, De Smet, S.D., died, Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in De Smet. Services have been set for 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at American Lutheran Church in De Smet with Rev. Randy Koeller officiating. Burial will be in the De Smet Cemetery. Visitation hours were 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18, at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet. Fred Muilenburg was born Aug. 24, 1923, to parents George and Agnes Muilenburg on the family farm north of Manchester. Fred was united in marriage to Ruth Geyer Jan. 13, 1944, at Luverne, Minn. Together they operated the Healy Ranch south of Manchester for 14 years. Fred then worked several years for Terrace Park Dairy and then owned and operated a commercial lamb feeding operation near De Smet, S.D. He enjoyed music, played the accordion, piano, and had his own orchestra during the 1950's. He especially enjoyed listening to his daughter's piano music. He was an active member of the American Lutheran Church in De Smet and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Ruth Muilenburg, De Smet, S.D.; one son Gene and wife Sylvia Muilenburg, Minneapolis, Minn.; one daughter Deanna McKibben and fiancˇ Carv Hauge, Aberdeen, S.D.; three grandchildren, Brent and wife Allyson Muilenburg, Minneapolis, Minn., Julie and husband Jeff Agrimson, Minneapolis, Minn., and Troy and wife Jane McKibben, Aberdeen, S.D.; five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Isabel, Luke, Olivia, and Rhiannon; two twin sisters, Velma Spilde and Verna Cheney; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
