Philip L. Butler, 84, of Speegleville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Lake Shore Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 3, at Lake Shore Funeral Home, Waco.

Philip was born in Waco, Texas, to the late William Clarence and Kyle (Kemp) Butler. At a young age, he joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II and the Korean War. Philip married Jewel Ferguson on April 2, 1949, in Waco. He worked as a construction superintendent for many years for several area construction companies. Philip loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, race cars, and spending time at the farm and attending car shows. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family, and his dog, Baby Jewel.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jewel Butler; brothers: Donald Butler, Duane Butler, and David Butler; and granddaughter, Maria Butler Newman.

Survivors include sons: Lynn Wayne Butler and wife, Elvira, of Elm Mott, Steven P. Butler and wife, Tereasa, of Austin, and Michael S. Butler and wife, Janice, of McGregor; daughters, Katherine Nabors and husband, Lany, of Speegleville, and Darla DiCorte and husband, Mark, of China Spring; grandchildren: Stephen Butler, Lisa Finley, Rene Coronado, Phillip Butler, Brandi Patterson, David J. Butler, LeeAnn Rodgers, Tracy D'Angelo, Tina Cruz, Tayanna Seniceros, Khristie Bowery, Cory Nabors, Kyla Leslie, Misty Burgess, and Jessica DiCorte; 39 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jane Anderson and husband, Roland, of Grandview, and Pat Rico't, of Arlington; and numerous other relatives and friends.
