He was born February 27, 1932, in Sardis, Mississippi to Emily Josephine Dorr and James Shelby Dettor, Sr. Mr. Dettor served in the US Army during the Korean War. He moved from Mississippi to Palestine in March of 1976. He was retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and was an active member of the Westwood United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Mr. Dettor was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Dettor. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Dettor of Palestine; children, Lucy Monks and husband Fred of Youngsville, NC, Emily McLucas and husband Bob of Austin, Norman Bisch of Vancouver, and Debbie Hughes and husband Kelly of Palestine; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
