John Madison McWhirter married an old maid, Frances Emily Seely, who was six years older than he, after his wife, Georgia Ann O'Mary, died. They were married four years before John Madison's death in 1907. There is no marker for John M. This is an old cemetery with slaves, Indians and early Seely family members. Thomas Benton McWhirter would have been 11 years old and John Crow McWhirter 9. Mrs. Cary Malone said the grave was not marked intentionally because of trouble and hard feelings in the family. She said her husband knew he was buried there. She possibly thinks Thomas Benton McWhirter was buried there also, after having a disappointing relationship with a girl friend and took his life with a gun.
It is not certain that the name of this old cemetery is Seely but since there were some early Seely family members buried there, that is what it is called by some. It may not have a name. John Madison McWhirter married Georgia Ann Elizabeth O'Mary in 1878 and had the following children: Sarah Elizabeth, b. 29 May 1878, d.16 Jun 1940; Susan A. "Susie", b.09 Feb 1879, d. 06 Oct 1880; Savannah Belle, b. 20 Jun 1882, d. 31 Mar 1965; William Blaine, b. 19 Feb 1893, d.24 Sep. 1934; Thomas Benton, b.16 Jun 1896, d.28 Mar 1921; & John Crow McWhirter, b. 06 Sep. 1898, d. 05 Feb 1975.
John's wife, Georgia Ann Elizabeth O'Mary died June 23, 1902, and he then married Francis Emily Seely.
