Ray Jonas Nelson was born June 25, 1912. The son of George Monroe Nelson and Nellie B. Moore Nelson near the town of Garber. When Ray was small the family moved to New Marshall, then Dover, then Hennessey. And as years went by the family lived near Billings, Garber and then to Tonkawa.

When World Was II started Ray enlisted in the army and served most of four years. He took part in the African invasion and took part in the Italian invasion from Tunis up to Rome. He was rotated home and discharged shortly after.

Ray met and married Norma Louise Simmons April 4, 1947 in Ponca City, Kay County, Oklahoma. To this union five children were born, Johnny Ray Nelson of Ponca City, Jimmy Lester Nelson of Dallas Texas, Ronny Howard Nelson of Ponca City, Sarah Louise Smith of Okla. City, and Larry Dean Nelson of Okla. City.

Ray greatly loved his family and other relatives. He also enjoyed many friends. Ray departed this life July 19th 1980 at the age of 68 years 33 days in the Medical City Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

He leaves to morn his passing his 5 children, 10 grandchildren, 5 brothers and 4 sisters, many nieces and nephews and others relatives and friends.

I never heard anyone call him Mr. Nelson, he was always just Ray. To those who were near and dear to him he will be greatly missed by all.
