Roy H. Davis, age 93, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Roy was born in La Jara, CO in 1920. Roy lived there as a young man and met and married Jean Peterson from nearby Sanford, CO. They were married in June of 1939 in Albuquerque. Roy worked in Albuquerque as a carpenter until World War II. At that time, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was attached to the 40th Battalion of Seabees. Roy served the next four years in the South Pacific and was involved in military action on the islands of Los Negros, New Hebrides, New Guinea, Saipan and Okinawa. Roy received a Presidential Citation and was awarded three battle stars for combat. At the end of the war, Roy was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer First Class and returned to southern Colorado where he was a building contractor. In 1956, Roy went to work as an insurance adjustor for General Adjustment Bureau and again relocated to Albuquerque. Roy was employed with GAB until his retirement in 1985. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother and two sisters. Roy is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jean, his two sons, Howard Davis and his wife, Janeane of Roseville, CA and Walter Davis and his wife, Gloria of Bear Creek, CO. Roy has eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - Eubank Chapel, 4109 Eubank Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Sanford Cemetery in the San Luis Valley in Southern Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation/Hospice, PO Box 26666, Albuquerque, NM 87125.
