Lucien Israël Cormier of South Windsor, Con- necticut passed away at home at age ninety- two, on Sunday, March 18, 2012. Born on September 26, 1919, in St-Léonard-Parent, New Brunswick, Canada, Lucien was a son of the late Alfred and Clarina (Ouellette) Cormier, and for fifty-nine years the beloved husband of Hilda (Ringuette) Cormier, who died in 2006. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces dur- ing World War II; and after marrying in 1947, Lucien and his wife immigrated to the United States — briefly living in Van Buren, Maine, before relocating to Hartford, Connecticut. Before being stricken with a serious illness in his thirties, Lucien had been employed for a number of years as a rigger at the former Rog- er Sherman Company; and after his recovery, he went to work at the Fafnir Bearing Com- pany in New Britain and Newington, retiring in 1984 with twenty-three years of service. A communicant at both Saint Anne and St. Aug- ustine parishes in Hartford, Lucien was a de- voted husband and family man who lived a long and fruitful life; and he especially enjoyed planting and tending to his garden.
He will forever be deeply missed by his son, Roger Cormier and his wife Maria of Wethers- field, Connecticut; his two daughters, Linda (Cormier) Murtha and her husband Jay of South Windsor, and Arlene (Cormier) Sargent and her husband Victor of Bristol, Connecti- cut; as well as his seven grandchildren, Jere- my Cormier, Amanda Cormier, Nicole Cormier, Ashley Murtha, Sarah Murtha, Zakary Sargent, and Cheyenne Sargent. He was also survived by five brothers, Gérard Cormier, Fernand Cor- mier, Réne Cormier, Jean-Guy Cormier, and Donat Cormier; and four sisters, Rita (Cormier) Bélanger, Madeline (Cormier) Martin, Alfréda Cormier, and Thérèse (Cormier) Breau, all of Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Lucien was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.
Calling hours were held on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, from 6 to 8pm at the Rose Hill Funeral Home in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, with funeral services on Wednesday, March 21. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield; followed by interment at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial donations be made to Masoni- care in East Hartford. Rest in peace, Lucien.
