Nicholas Astras, 92, a longtime resident of Franklin Lakes, NJ passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 6, 2013. Born and raised in Andros, Greece, he immigrated to the United States as a young man. An active and faithful member of St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Paramus, he was a member of the Parish Council and the American Hellenic Education & Progressive Association. A truly altruistic man, Nicholas always found time for others. He also enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Astras owned and operated Olympic Diner in Paterson for forty years.
Beloved husband of the late Estelle (Makris) Astras. Loving and devoted father of the late John Astras. Dear longtime companion of the late Anna Gregoras. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews both in and out of state.
A funeral service is planned for Monday, October 14, 2013, 10:30 AM at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 51 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07652. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Paterson. The family will receive relatives and friends Sunday 2-6 PM at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ, 201-797-3500. Trisagion Sunday at 3:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nicholas may be made to the St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
