Traveled from Nova Scotia, Canada to Iowa in a covered wagon then on to the country of Colorado. She was the first woman to discover gold in the Central City region. She was the only woman accorded a seat in the miner's court and voted at all miner's meetings and district elections. She was the first woman voter in Colorado.
