Betty Panter May 11, 1930 October 2005 Loving wife and mother, Betty Louise Panter, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 14, 2005. Betty is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clay Panter of Wasco and three children and their spouses: daughter, Carol and Carl Olsen of Wasco; son, Greg Panter of Olathe, CO; and daughter, Jennifer and Terry Nachtigall of Bakersfield. She is also survived by sister, Glenora and Lonnie Phillips of San Jose; brother, Harold and Shirley Chestnut of Klamath Falls, OR; and six grandchildren: granddaughter, Amanda and husband, Matthew OBrien; Daniel Olsen; Stephanie and Brittany Panter; and Bryant and Sean Nachtigall. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Delia and Arthur Skelton and two infant brothers. Betty was born in Greeley, CO. In 1935, during the Great Depression, the family moved west settling in Klamath Falls, OR. She graduated there from Henely High School in 1948 and attended Biola College, then located in downtown Los Angeles, where she met Clay. They were married on August 25, 1950. The couple moved to Wasco in 1951 where Clay began farming and Betty enjoyed and took pride in her life as a wife, mother and grandmother. Betty was active in her church teaching Sunday School, working with youth groups, singing in the choir, and served as a deaconess and member of the Womens Ministry Team. She was a parent volunteer in her childrens schools and served in the PTA. Betty was very involved in the Hume Lake Christian Camps Womens Auxiliary and many of its fundraisers. Betty was always appreciated for her style and skill as homemaker and cook, especially her famous pies. Since retirement she and Clay enjoyed extensive traveling and being active with family and friends. To those who knew her, Betty exemplified the virtues of a Godly woman. Her favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5&6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. A private graveside service will be held at Wasco Memorial Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at Grace Community Church, Seventh at Cedar, Wasco, on Saturday, October 22, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation is 2-8 p.m., Friday, at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco.
