BAKERS MILLS ~ Joel Dalaba died Tuesday night, June 5, of an illness of about ten weeks. The disease appeared by report of attendants to have been Typhoid Fever, of a very pronounced and malignant type. He suffered greatly, but maintained his senses until near the last, when he had convulsions. Mr. Dalaba was nearly seventy years old and leaves a widow, two sons: Edgar and Bert, and one daughter, Mrs. Stephen Colvin.
The funeral was held at Bakers Mills and the remains were interred in the Old Wesleyan Church Cemetery by the side of he children who died many years ago of Diphtheria.
Mr. Dalaba was a subject of the noted draft of 1865 in this country, and for several years has been trying to secure some compensation for his time, trouble and expense in going to Plattsburgh and being held some twenty days in the United States ranks as a soldier. Last winter he and Nathan Davis and others presented a petition to congress, though our representative, Honorable L. W. Emerson, to pass a bill so that these men could be paid.
