Mrs. Alice West Allen, mother of Mrs. Carroll H. Jones, died suddenly about 11 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Joines residence at 1802 Catawba Avenue.

Mrs. Allen had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Jones for the past 30 years, and was loved by all those in the community who knew her. The spirit of the women who survived the days of the Confederate War and the Reconstruction era was exemplified in her personality. She was an enthusiastic member of the "Girls of the 60's", and a devoted member of Trinity Church, where she taught in the Sunday School for a number of years.

A Virginian by birth, Mrs. Allen's old home was at "Westland" in Louisa County. She was born on March 25, 1853.

Surviving Mrs. Allen are her daughter, Mrs., Jones, wife of the state manager of the Fidelity Mutual Insurance Company, and a sister; Mrs. Henry Weston Harper, wife of the dean of the University of Texas, five grandchildren survive, Mrs., Harold Gardiner, and Dr. Frank West Allen, Jr. of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. William P. DuBose, Miss Elizabeth Jones of Columbia, and one great-grandchild, William P. DuBose, Jr.

Funeral services are to be conducted at the home at 10 o'clock Thursday by the Rev. Henry D. Phillips, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, and burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Dr. C. Fred Williams, J. M. Cantey, J. Perrin Thompson, Edmund R. Heyward, and R. Beverley Sloan.
