Orem Man Dies in Auto Accident Near Lehi

An Orem man, Forrest Hugo Ferguson, 65, of 1040 S. 590 E, was killed instantly in a head-on collision Saturday afternoon near the 1100 West interchange of I-15 near Lehi.

Also injured was a young relative, Nolan F. Ferguson, 18, of the same address, who was riding in the car. He was taken to the American Fork Hospital following the crash, and was reported in fair condition late Saturday by the hospital.

The Utah Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred when Mr. Ferguson apparently mistook the southbound off-ramp which connects with Highway 91 as an on-ramp for the freeway. His vehicle collided head-on with a southbound J.C. Penney Co. truck operated by Jospeh (as written) Lynn
Sexton, 35, 1220 W. 900 N., Salt Lake City.

Mr. Saxton and a passenger, Marvin Arnold, 33 of 5626 S. 5060 W., Kearns, suffered minor cuts and bruises. The Ferguson vehicle was completely demolished.

State Troopers said that the southbound off-ramp at that point is an extension of Highway 91. However, northbound traffic must pass under the freeway in order to enter the northbound lanes. Mr. Ferguson apparently proceeded straight ahead, in the belief that the route was an entrance to the freeway, troopers said. Mr. Ferguson was dead at the scene.

Funeral services for Forrest Hugo Ferguson, 65, of 1040 S. 590 E., Orem, who died Saturday in an automobile accident, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Orem 19th-38th Ward Chapel, 1025 S. 800 E., Orem.

Officiating will be Bishop Denmark Jensen. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary, Orem, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday at the chapel one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Ferguson was born July 19, 1907 in Provo to Fredrick and Elizabeth Agnes Baum Ferguson. He married Margaret Hutchings on Sep. 27, 1926 in Provo, and the marriage was solemnized later in the Manti Temple.

Mr. Ferguson attended Spencer Elementary School in Orem and was graduated from Lincoln High School. He worked as a refrigeration engineer at Utah Ice and Storage for 18 years and served as vice president of CIO Union for the company's employees.

Active in the LDS Church, he was an elder in the Orem 38th Ward. He enjoyed farming, gardening, woodwork, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his widow; one son and four daughters, Nolan F. Ferguson and Mrs. Floyd (Lorna) Jeffs, both of Orem; Mrs. James E. (Betty) Durrant, Lindon; Mrs. Robert B. (Faye) Reeve, Pleasant Grove and Mrs. Dean (Margie) Fausett, South Jordan; one brother and four sisters, Fred Ferguson, Mrs. Earl (Elsie) Campbell, Mrs. Myrtle Robey and Mrs. Hazel Anderson, all of Provo, and Orpha Ferguson of Portland, Ore.; 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several foster children.
