Funereal services were held Thursday afternoon for S. Clarence Anderson, widely-known resident of Royal and Clay County for many years. The rites were conducted at the Royal Methodist church with Rev. R. O. Grote in charge. Interment was in the Peterson Cemetery.
Samuel Clarence Anderson, son of Michael S. and Mary A. Anderson, was born in Wood County, West Virginia, July 1, 1870, and died at his home in Royal on October 9, 1951, aged 81 years, three months, eight days.
On July 1 1891, he was united in marriage with Bertha Frame, also of Wood County, West Virginia. To this union two children were born: Olin, now of Sutherland, and Mrs. Olive George of Walker, Minnesota.
In 1887 he and his wife and son came to Clay County, Iowa, and engaged in farming until 1917 when he moved to Royal which has since been his home.
Mr. Anderson had been a member of the Methodist church at Lowdell, West Virginia since the age of sixteen. Alwasy a singer, he had for a number of years sung in the choir of the Methodist church in Royal.
Mr. Anderson had been failing in health and his daughter had just recently come to help care for him.
Besides his wife he leaves his son, his daughter, and one grandson.
