Robert Gallivan, 80, of Southborough, died Sunday, May 7, 2008, at UMass Memorial Health Care Systems, after an extended illness.
He was the husband of Jeannette (Buell) Gallivan for nearly 56 years.
Born in Cambridge, the son of the late Timothy and Mary (Riley) Gallivan, he was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School and attended Boston University.
He was a national account executive for GF Business Systems of Brighton and retired after 35 years of service.
Mr. Gallivan was a regional volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. Throughout his life, Mr. Gallivan was dedicated to a diversity of athletic pursuits. In 1947 and 1948, he held a world title in professional waterskiing. Afterward, he maintained a lifelong commitment to his interests in sports through playing tennis, skiing and volunteer coaching through the Southborough Recreation Department. He also served as a linesman for the World Tennis Championships at the Longwood Tennis Club, Chestnut Hill.
He was a member of the Southborough chapter of Rotary International and a former member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and sang in the choir.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Gary Gallivan and his wife, Kathleen of Dallas, and Bradford Gallivan and his wife, Michelle, of Northborough; a grandson, Connor Robert Gallivan of Northborough; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be private.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Southborough.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Morris Funeral Home (Morrisfuneralparlor.com), 40 Main St., Southborough.
