He was a member of a family of 13 children, being now survived by one brother, Chas. C. Ice of Thompsonville and one sister, Emma Julian of West Frankfort.
He was married to Lavina Horrell December 23, 1869, she preceded him in death. To this union were born 8 children, all of whom have died except one son, Fred with whom he has made his home for the past two years.
In March 1903, he was married again to Martha Carter, but was again left without a companion when she died.
Uncle Jim, as he was commonly known, had been quite a prominent figure in Frankfort Township ever since he was a young man. He followed farming as his chosen vocation and enjoyed mush success in its pursuit.
He served as highway commissioner of Frankfort Township for two terms and was town clerk for several years. He assisted in the oranization of the Union State Bank of this city and was president of that institution for a number of years.
He was converted and baptized into the fellowship of Old East Fork Baptist Church, at which place he held his membership at the time of his death.
Besides his son, his brother, and his sister, above mentioned, he leaves to mourn his loss, five grand-children, Ed, Ruby & Marion Ice; Eagle Gray and Alberta Clem; three great grand-children and a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the 2nd Baptist Church with Rev. T.F. Lowry officiating.
