Richard A. Chase, 81, of Carmel, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.


He was born June 16, 1922, in Madison, WI, to Sherman and Marion (Dempsey) Chase. He was a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology.


Mr. Chase was a member of Carmel Golden K and Boy Scouts of America from which he received the St. George Award. He was a volunteer science teacher for IPS schools 60 and 11 and science fair judge for the state of Indiana. He served on the Marketing Committee for Service Corp. for Retired Executives from which he received the Hadley Award. Mr. Chase has been a counselor in the IPS, worked with the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy, served as the vice-president for the Drug Free School Zone Program and on the S.P.I.R.I.T. I and II committees. He served on the Senior Services Board of Hamilton County and was a past president and Senior Citizen of the Year for Hamilton County in 1994 and Rehab Resources. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.


Mr. Chase retired in 1987 from Rand McNally & Co. as executive vice-president of manufacturing and plant manager of the Indianapolis plant. He also served as plant manager in Hammond, IN, Skokie, IL, Oak Park, IL, and Taunton, MA.


He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.


In addition to his wife of 51 years Dorothy M. (Bullock) Chase, he is survived by daughters Pamela C. (Bruce) Newell and Patricia (Richard) Conniff; a son David A. (Debra) Chase; sisters Lorraine Briggs and Ellen Villella; grandchildren Elizabeth and Andrew Newell, Sarah and Katie Conniff and Michael and Megan Chase.



Mr. Chase served in HQ Co., 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, WWII, Pacific Theater of Operations.
