Margaret Mary Ward, 91, of Ashland passed away Friday evening, Nov. 1, 2013, in her home at the Bradford House at Brethren Care Village.

She was born Jan. 1, 1922, to Roe and Alice (née Ferguson) Oswalt in Mansfield.

Following high school, Margaret attended Ashland College and graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Margaret retired after many years of teaching in Shaker Heights, Lexington, Osborn Elementary in Ashland and also served as a principal at Jeromesville. She also was a licensed Realtor.

She married the love of her life, Robert G. Ward Sr., on June 28, 1947. Margaret was a member of First Christian Church and attended Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was co-founder of Ashland College Kindergarten. Margaret served on numerous committees and clubs throughout the Ashland community. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling with her family and grandchildren, spending time on Kelley's Island and wintering in Florida.

Margaret will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Sally Ledbetter of St. Louis, Mo., Polly (Bill) Chandler of Ashland and Nancy (Jeff) Patterson of Lakewood; one son, Rob (Mindy) Ward of Ashland; six grandchildren, Billy (Erin) Chandler, Ryan (Kaitlin) Chandler, Chad Seeholzer, Robby, Maggie and Johnny Ward; two step-grandchildren, Todd (Jacquie) Patterson and Libby Patterson; two great-grandchildren, Flynne and Ezra; one step-great-granddaughter, Ardyn; one sister, Jean Heitz of Mansfield; one brother, Dave (Bettye) Oswalt of Fairfax, Va.; an aunt, Lois Landis of Waco, Texas; and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years of marriage, Robert G. Ward Sr., who passed away Dec. 9, 1991.

The Ward family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff of Brethren Care Village for its unending care for Margaret during her five-year residency.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Sanford C. Mitchell and Don Rinehart officiating. Interment will take place in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Jack's Place at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Margaret Ward Fund, in care of Ashland County Community Foundation, 300 College Ave., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
