METROPOLIS, Ill. — Mrs. Alberta L. Swinford, 99, of Metropolis, Ill., passed away at 2:33 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery in Massac County. Bro. Kevin Richardson will officiate. Beth Clanahan will be the soloist.

Alberta was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Rosebud, Ill. Alberta was a giving and loving person, who always had a smile on her face. She never met a stranger and was always first to help anyone in need. She loved the Lord and lived her faith daily. She taught her children about God's love and his forgiveness. She was the greatest of role models as a mother.

Alberta is survived by her daughter, Kathy Swinford of Symsonia; her sons, Walter Swinford of New Columbia, Ill., and Virgil Swinford of Union City, Tenn.; her grandchildren, Allison Garcia and husband Stephen of Sunnyvale, Calif., Rachelle Larimer and husband Brett of Paducah, and Jessica Swinford of South Fulton, Tenn.; her great-grandchildren, Brooke Larimer and Brennan Larimer; her son-in-law, Paul Burson of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Bertha (Mittendorf) Krueger; her husband, Thomas T. Swinford; her daughter, Bertha "Pat" Burson; her two sisters; and two brothers.

There will not be any visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the services.

Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
