A lifelong resident of the area, Howard was born Aug. 20, 1928 in Cheboygan, the son of Charles and Marion (Rose) McLaughlin. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1952, serving on the USS Philippine Seas, and the USS Princeton. He later worked as a mechanic at Lyons Auto for over 30 years, and was a talented musician.
Surviving are three sisters, Sandra Phillips of Cheboygan, Sharon Pattillo of Conroe, Texas, and Charlene Rohr of Portage, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Violet Baij and Helen Simpson; and two brothers, John and Melvin McLaughlin.
