On Sunday morning last, while engaged in dressing himself, Mr. James Argall was stricken with paralysis, from which he never regained consciousness, and which terminated in his death Wednesday morning.
Mr. Argall passed his 83d birthday Nov. 1st, 1895. He was a native of England and emigrated to America in 1848. The first three years in this country he spent in Pennsylvania, coming to Mineral Point in 1851, and here has been his home constantly from that date.
He was twice married; first to Miss Rachel James, who lived but a few years, and the second time, nearly 50 years ago, to Miss Ellery, who survives him. From the first union there were two children: Mrs. Samuel Jacka and Mr. James Argall, now residing in this city. By the second marriage there are seven children surviving the father namely, Mrs. David Bice and John and Frank Argall of La Crosse; Mrs. Johnson of Wausau; Mrs. Peters of Dodgeville; Mrs. W.J. Curry and Miss Louisa Argall of this city.
Eight years ago, Mr. Argall retired from active business, down to which time he was one of our most energetic and enterprising citizens. He was one of the first to establish a successful brewery in this city and followed that business until his retirement.
He was a man of very positive character and strong conviction, but of strictest integrity and generous impulses, a staunch friends and fair opponent. There will be many to lay flowers of affection upon his grave, and none to remember against him any unmanly thing.
Funeral from his late residence, on Hoard Street, Friday afternoon, Jan. 10th at 2 o'clock.
