Marcia Mae (Maloan) Hammonds, 71, of Pittsburg, died at 10:50 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2003, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., following an 18-month battle with leukemia.

She was born Jan. 30, 1932, at Kansas City, Mo., to Edward Merle and Marguerite Nora (Ringle) Maloan.

She attended St. Mary's elementary school at Pittsburg and graduated from St. Mary's High School (presently Colgan High School), Pittsburg, in 1951.

On Nov. 29, 1952, she married Darrel E. Hammonds at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg.

She moved from Kansas City, Mo., to Cincinnati, with her family as a young girl, where she lived for two years. Around 1940, the family moved to Pittsburg, where she lived most of her life.

She lived at Parsons from 1988-97.

She was accepted at the Chicago Conservatory of Music while in her teens and was a soloist for numerous weddings. She also was involved in several Christmas Messiahs and in the Centennial Choir.

She was a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, served as chairman of the Stilwell Tenant Association and was a member of the FCE Home Extension Morning Glory Unit at Parsons.

She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone, Pittsburg, for 10 years, Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center, Pittsburg, for 23 years, and for Dr. Terry Rothstein, ophthalmologist, Parsons, for eight years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pittsburg.

Survivors include her mother, of Pittsburg; three daughters, Christine "Chris" Anne Hammonds, Paula Sue Scott and Angela Rose Hammonds, all of Pittsburg; one brother, David E. Maloan, of Wichita; two grandchildren and several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, a brother, Gerald "Jerry" E. Maloan, and two infant sons.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Robert McElwee as celebrant.

Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery.

The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Sunday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg, where the family will receive friends following the rosary.

Friends may call the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 522 S. Broadway, Pittsburg.
