Contracted malaria in the Fiji Islands that bothered him for several years. Resided in Seattle, WA after the war where he worked as a carpenter, metal worker and airplane mechanic for the Boeing Airplane Co. Married twice and had 3 sons by first wife, Ruth Erickson, and four grandchildren. World War II: Enlisted in the US Navy 26 Dec 1941 together and at same time as his father, Harold A Smalley.
