Death: Dec. 9, 1944

Mary attended Central Washington State College.

Mary Louise went into training to become a WASP (Women's Auxiliary Service Pilots)at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas in March, 1944. She graduated and received her silver wings on October 16, 1944.

She was stationed with the 33rd Training Wing of the AFTS SE at Frederick Army Air Field, Frederick, Oklahoma.

On December 9, 1944, Mary was a passenger, along with a Sgt. Melvin Clark, in a UC-78, a twin engine Cessna T-50 known as a Bobcat, flying from Frederick to Tulsa, Oklahoma. The plane encountered a cold front moving across the state. The airplane was flying at 9,000 feet. When the plane was on the outskirts of Tulsa, the pilot radioed the control tower for permission to descend. The descent came too late for a plane with heavy ice on its wings. It crashed, killing everyone on board.

Mary was the last member of the WASP's to die in the line of duty.
