John Junior Beard, 83, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at his residence in Newton. He was a gentle soul and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
Born July 15, 1926, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Dora Belle Hudson Beard and John Wesley Beard.
He was a member of St. Paul's Re f o rme d Church of Newton. He retired as a manager from Broyhill Industries in Conover, where he worked for more than 40 years. Following retirement, he enjoyed working with his sister Doris at Drums Restaurant of Conover. He served in the Army during WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 16 for more than 50 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Murriell, Carroll, Howard, Zele, Lewis and Evan; and sisters, Hazel Scronce and Edna Scronce.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Jo Anne; ...

Services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Reformed Church of Newton.
The family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. at the church.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Dr. Stephen Disher will officiate.
