In September 1862, near Chantilly, Va., he became deaf in one ear when a comrade discharged his gun nearby. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863, the same day his brother Arthur was wounded. He was later wounded at Spotsylvania.

Monday, 24 August 1925:

Andrew G. Buell, Civil war veteran, passed away at the Soldier's Home hospital at 4:45 p.m. Sunday after a lingering illness, death resulting from hardening of the arteries and complications, resultant from old age. For the past three weeks his condition had been very critical and during that period his son, Frank Buell, of this city, has been constantly at his bedside. Though admitted to membership at Burkett about four years ago, he had made his home there only during the past six months.

Born in Franklin, N. Y., August 17, 1839 (sic), he was aged 86 years at the time of his death. He enlisted for service in the Civil war on Oct. 2, 1861, and served for three years as a private in Company A, 40th New York infantry. In 1866 he was married in New York state and seven years later, with his wife, he came to Nebraska locating at Chapman. About 14 years ago he moved to Grand Island. His wife passed away Dec. 19, 1920. Two children have also preceded him in death, dying in infancy. A son, Frank, of this city, and six grandchildren survive him. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m from the Trinity M. E. church, the Rev. A. V. Huntor? officiating. Burial will be in the Chapman cemetery.
