Sarah Elizabeth Schmidt was my Great Aunt. I am most grateful to Mr. Jim Ditto from the parish of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in helping me to verify that Sarah was indeed buried with her second Husband in Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Sarah Elizabeth Schmidt was born on April 8, 1904 to William Schmidt and Anna Lucinda Haught. Sarah was the third child of the couple and the only female child born to William and Anna that can be documented.

Sarah married Vernon Carl Masters, Son of John Masters and Malinda Barnhart, on October 22, 1919 in Saint Mary's Township, Pleasants County, West Virginia. Sarah and Carl were, presumably, divorced before she married her second Husband, Pius Thomas Maher. Divorce proceedings were initiated by Sarah in the Court of Common Pleas in Muskingum County, Ohio on September 7, 1921. This case was heard by the Court, however Judge Lemert of that Court refused a divorce to Sarah. This was despite the fact that she alleged that Vernon had both verbally and physically abused her and did not provide for her. Her testimony stated that she had left Vernon on January 1, 1921 and had not been living with him.

Sarah married a second time on May 12, 1923 at White Cottage, Muskingum County, Ohio. Her second Husband was Pius Thomas Maher.

Sarah and Pius, as far as can be documented at this point, only had one child, Pius Thomas Maher, Jr., who was born on February 28, 1938 in Ohio, however, it is VERY likely, because of the DNA testing of Sarah's relatives during the 21st century, that she bore another child just a few days before she married Pius. That child came to be known as Everett Elijah Schmidt, the Son of William Schmidt and Anna Haught. William and Anna were the maternal Grandparents of Elijah and NOT his biological parents, however they functioned as parents and did the day to day raising of Elijah, along with other their own biological children. Unfortunately, the biological Father of Elijah was Sarah's own Brother, George H. Schmidt, as is evidenced by members of the DNA results of the descendants of William Schmidt and Anna Haught.

Sarah and her second Husband, Pius, remained, after they married, living either in or around the area of Somerset, Muskingum County, with their Son, Pius Thomas Maher, Jr.
