Mrs. Edward Folden, 70, Dies at Detroit L., Buried at Newfolden

Services for Mrs. Edward (Genevieve A.) Folden, 70, Detroit Lakes, were held Saturday in Community Alliance Church, Detroit Lakes, with burial in Newfolden. She died Thursday, Jan. 10, 1991.

Burial was in Folden Cemetery near Newfolden. Bearers were Boyd Danielson, Dale Mattson, Everett Peterson, Robert Melick, Bob Swanson and Rodney Brodin. Rev. David J. Sohl officiated at the services with special music provided by “Shekinah” and Kim Schnitzer, vocalists and Marion Melick, organist.

Genevieve Trehus was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Spring Grove, where she grew up and was graduated from high school. She attended St. Olaf College at Northfield for 1 year. On July 30, 1941, she married Rev. Edward Folden in Spring Grove, where they for 2 years before moving in the East Coast where they lived in several communities including Boston, Mass.

In the 1950s and 1960s, they lived in various cities in the Midwest, including Cooperstown and Park River, N.D., Strathcona and Thief River Falls. They founded and operated Steer, Inc. in Park River, N.D., raising cattle for missions. The company now also operates out of Bismarck, N.D. They lived in Detroit Lakes from 1965-72 and retired in 1988 back to Detroit Lakes.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Douglas of Moorhead and David of Seattle, Wash., a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Farol) Bontrop, Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, Gayle Trehus of Litchfield; and a sister, Mrs. Bjarne (Harriet) Kvingedal of Boca Raton, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son in infancy, one daughter, Laurie Jean, and one granddaughter.
