Negro League Baseball Player. Shortstop for the Kansas City Monarchs from 1937 to 1939. He was selected to a Negro Leagues all-star game, after which he joined the Monarchs traveling team and played with pitcher Satchel Paige until 1940. His nickname came from a hat he wore as a child which looked like a sombrero. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and served in Europe until 1945.  (bio by: Eric Crow)
