GRACE — Homer Lowe Gibson, 79, of Grace, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at home. He was born April 23, 1921, at Grace, Idaho, the son of Harvey and Lucy D. Lowe Gibson.
He married Fern Elaine Larsen December 23, 1947, at Pocatello, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.
He was raised and educated in Grace. He had attended one year at the University of Idaho. Homer had worked as a mechanic and planner at Monsanto, retiring in 1984, after 30 years.
He had served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a high priest in the Grace LDS Third Ward. He had served as elderÂ's quorum president, Sunday school superintendent, counselor in the bishopric, high counselor, stake executive secretary, and was a church welfare farm manager. He, along with his wife, had also served an LDS mission to Houston, Texas.
He was a member of the Grace American Legion Post 50. He was also water master of Last Chance, North Extension and Turner Canal. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, carpentry, mechanics and farming.
Homer is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Grace; one son and three daughters and their spouses, Kip and Alison Gibson, Vancouver, Washington, Avon and Steve Daley, Soda Springs, Idaho, Gail and Dave Barthlome, Grace, Idaho, and DeAnn and Russ Wight, Pocatello, Idaho; also surviving are 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Cluff Gibson, Preston, Idaho, Don Gibson, Grace, Idaho, Opal Smith, Pocatello, Idaho, and Hattie Lampshire, Ogden, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 10, at noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Wayne Alder officiating. Friends may call on Friday evening, March 9, at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Saturday at the Grace Stake Center, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery with military services.
Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
