Hugh's name is spelled "Overmier" on his tombstone, but most of his descendants adopted the spelling Overmyer.

The following notes are by Mr. Overmyer, the original creator of this memorial.

A farmer, Jefferson Democrat, & Baptist Church member (w/ Lewis Overmyer). His Grandfather, Revolutionary War Captain John George Overmyer was at his baptism. He served on the Grand Jury of the famed Sandusky Co. 1842 Trial of the Murder of Mrs. Sperry. Children: Henry Guinn, Harrison, Thomas (died at age 2), Lucinda, Mary Catherine, Sarah, Martha, Hiram, John Ira, Benjamin, Baby O died at birth, Hugh, and Frances M. Most all of his boys served in the U.S. Civil War.
