Mary was the last of nine children born to Jonas More and Deborah Person More. She was raised at Roxbury where her father was a farmer and prominent member of the community. Mary married to Edward I. Burhans on 15 October 1837 at Roxbury. They made their home at Roxbury where her husband was, during her lifetime, a merchant. Mary and Edward were the parents of three children; Maria DuBois Burhans, Jonas More Burhans, and Edward Clay Burhans.
