Melvin Austin Patton
Melvin Austin Patton, 91, of Winchester, VA, passed away Friday, September 27, 2013 at Consulate Healthcare in Woodstock, VA.
Mr. Patton was born November 10, 1921 in Sweet Springs, West Virginia, the son of the late William and Cora Patton.
He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Anthony in the South Pacific.
He retired from Walter Reed Army Medical Center as a heating and air conditioning mechanic.
His wife, Adele Marie, whom he married on April 4, 1942 in Newport News, Virginia, preceded him in death on September 24, 2009.
Surviving are three daughters, Sue Ann Dearstyne Patterson and her husband Pete of Winchester, Virginia, Sara Ellen Spencer and her husband Paul of Mineral, Virginia and Martha Austin MacLeod and her husband, Charlie of Woodstock, Virginia; six grandchildren, Beth King and her husband, John of Wardensville, West Virginia, James Dearstyne of Frederick, Maryland, Alaina MacLeod and her partner Martin Kosciuk of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Eric MacLeod of Woodstock, Virginia, Faith Bland and her husband, Paul of Thousand Oaks, California and Lauren MacLeod and her partner Greg Potocki of Romney, West Virginia, and eight great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joel Dearstyne.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Shenandoah Memorial Park with Reverend George Fletcher officiating.
A Celebration of Melvin's life will be held at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel at 2:30 PM, following the graveside service.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
