Ernest Dirks, minister of the Mountain View Mennonite church for over 20 years, died suddenly Sunday morning at Winton, Calif., as a result of a heart attack. Mr. Dirks had left here February 26 to attend a minister's conference at Livingston, Calif.
Funeral services will be held in the Mountain View Mennonite church near Bonners Ferry, Friday at 2 p.m. The family has requested that friends do not send flowers but make donations to the Community hospital instead.
Dirks was born at Tampa, Kan., Sept 28 1899 and attended school at that city. On Oct 9, 1921, he was married to Alda Unruh at Montezuma, Kan. May 9, 1933, he was ordained as a minister of the Mennonite church.
In 1937 the Dirks family moved to Bonners Ferry and he has served as pastor of the Mountain View Mennonite church since his arrival. The deceased had engaged in farming all his life and at the time of his death was operating a dairy farm on the North Bench.
Survivors include his wife Alda,at home, five daughters, Mrs. Glen Peaster, Mrs. Leonard Regehr and Mrs. Bob Mastre, all of Bonners Ferry and Fern and Darlene at home; six sons, Clarence, Curtis and Ernie all of Bonners Ferry, and Larry, Dennis and Robert at home, two brothers, Ben Dirks, Bonners Ferry, and Albert Dirks, Scott City, Kan.; and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Schmidt and Mrs. Susie Koehn, both of Montezuma, Kan. and several other relatives. One daughter preceded him in death.
