Mrs. Gertrude Anderson, 59, Dies, Civic and Republican Leader
Gertrude Anderson, long active in Long Beach Civic affairs and Republican circles died Tuesday, the victim of a heart attack. She was 59 years old.
Mrs. Anderson served for 31 years as a volunteer worker with the American Red Cross and was associated for many years with the activities of Community Chest. She was also entertainment chairman for the Veterans Hospital. In 1952, Mrs. Anderson served as Area General for the Community Chest. She also worked closely with the Cancer and Heart fund Drives.
Known to her friends as "True", Mrs. Anderson had served as vice president of the Los Altos GOP Women's Club and 2nd vice president of the 70th Assembly District, California Republican Assembly.
Mrs. Anderson in 1956 campaigned unsuccessfully for the office of councilman for the Fifth District.
A resident of Long Beach for 31 years, Mrs. Anderson lived with her husband, Oscar W. at 3235 Charlemagne Ave.
Also surviving is her son, Gerry L Marsh; sisters, Mrs. Etta Hughes, Mrs. Jessie Zolik; brother, David Scudduth.
Service will be Friday at l pm in the Chapel of Dilday Mortuary. Interment at Westminster Memorial Park.
