Medical Pioneer. Professor of surgery, McGill University. He studied in Britain under Joseph Lister and in 1877 introduced Lister's antiseptic methods to Montreal. He was also deputy surgeon general of the force sent to subdue the Northwest Rebellion in 1885. The family monument was designed to resemble the Roddick Gates of McGill. Married first wife Urelia M. McKinnon of Pointe Claire, Quebec in 1880, Urelia died in Montreal in 1890. Married second wife Amy Redpath of the wealthy Redpath Sugar Family in Montreal in 1906. Amy survived Sir Thomas living until the late 1950"s she commissioned and donated the famous "Roddick Gates" at McGill University in Montreal. (* at the time of his birth Newfoundland was the first and oldest British Crown Coloney. It didn't join the Canadian Confederation until April 1,1949 when it's residence voted in favour of becoming Canada's 10th Province.)
