Guy Hoover, 71, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Extended Care facilities at Iowa City. His home was 313 1/2 E. 8th St. Mr. Hoover had been ill two years.
He was born July 14, 1896, at Lisbon, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Bell (Merkle) Hoover, and had been a Muscatine resident since 1935. He was a former resident of Lisbon, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
He married Loretta C. Honenschuh, May 14, 1919, at Iowa City. He was a member of St. Mathias church. He served in the U.S. Post Office department for 43 years before his retirement in 1957.
Survivors include a son, Donald C. Hoover, Aurora, Illinois; two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Jeanne) Daurer, Davenport, and Mrs. Curtis (Margaret) Deems, Aurora; two sisters and 12 grandchildren.
His wife died in 1965. Also preceding him in death were an infant daughter and one sister.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mathias church. The Rosary will be recited Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Riley Funeral home. Burial will be at the old St. Joseph cemetery, Iowa City.
Friends may start calling at the Riley Funeral Home Saturday after 7 p.m.
