James B. Jessee was one of the founding fathers of New Ross, Indiana (formally known as Valley City)

Son of Archie & Nancy Browning Jessee

Husband of Nancy Candler Jessee

Father of Martha, Issac W., Dorothy, Dosha, Thomas J., & James B. Jessee

Both of Mr. Jessee's grandfathers were American Revolutionary War Soldiers.

His Grandfather Browning lived to be 102 years old.

Mr. Jessee was a farmer, carpenter, blacksmith, & shoemaker.

He was self educated.

Mr. Jessee owned 240 acres of land, on which he farmed and built a log school (1836)which was taught by Christopher Walkup.

Mr. Jessee was also one of the first Trustees for the New Ross Methodist Church.

Age: 77 years 10 months 6 days
