Hans C. M. Jahren was one of seven children born to the Rev. Johan H. Jahren & Mrs. Sigrid Jahren. Hans was perhaps their first born child, born in Ohio, with five more children born in North Dakota. As of the 1910 census, Hans with his parents and five siblings (Agnes, Nils, Livius, Svanhild and Alette) are all living in Lake Park, Becker, Minnesota. Note that his mother is listed as having 7 children, but only 6 still living as of this 1910 census.

Hans C. M. Jahren received his training for the ministry at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. In September 1929, Rev. Hans C.M. Jahren married Miss Amy Nelson, of Albert Lea, MN.
