Obituary published in the Democratic Northwest January 26, 1888:
Gilson. -On January 19th, 1888, at her residence on the Bryan Pike, three miles west of Napoleon, Mrs. Sophia Gilson, widow of R. R. Gilson, aged 74 years, 1 month and 18 days. Mrs. Gilson was born in Philadelphia, Penn., and emigrated to the State of Ohio in 1834, and resided in Holmes County till 1838, when she removed with her husband and family to Henry County and located on the farm where she died. She was the mother of nine children, seven sons and two daughters. The daughters are both dead; four sons still live in this county, one in Fulton County, O., and two in Clinton County, Mich. She was a dutiful wife and gentle mother, as the grief of her bereft children testify, and her virtue will live in the hearts of her many friends as long as life lasts. Peace to her ashes.
