Jim was born February 24, 1933, to the late Kirby and Jewel Meyerhoeffer. A graduate of Allen Jay High School, he served in the Coast Guard from 1952 to 1956 and worked for many years as a receiving clerk for Drexel Heritage. Jim was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In 1977, he married the love of his life, Iva Howard Vaughn. After retirement, Jim enjoyed feeding the birds, especially his "alter ego", Red the cardinal, and spending time in the garden. He will be fondly remembered as a wonderful dad, grandfather, and huge Duke fan.

In addition to his wife, Jim was survived by a sister, Laura Meyerhoeffer of Archdale; step-sons, Harvey Vaughn, Jr. of Trinity, John David "Abe" Vaughn and wife Barb of Rockford, IL , and Ray Vaughn and wife Hazel of Thomasville; step-daughters, Naomi Snider and husband Tom of Kernersville, and Sharon Johnson of Sophia; 9 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Jim's life was held Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 3 pm at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale with Ray Vaughn and Jeremy Sams officiating.
