Lura E. Anderson was the daughter of Willie Carl and Kittie Carrie McKittrick. Lura came to Kansas City in 1935 and attended R.T. Coles school. She became a Seamstress and worked for the garment industry in Kansas City until she became a Licensed Beautician. On the farm in Edwardsville, many children of the family and friends learned to gather eggs and ride horses. She also loved to show her vegetable and flower gardens. Lura's first marriage was to Fred Arnold. This marriage was later dissolved. She later married Samuel Jones and they resided in Edwardsville, Kansas. She and Sam reared his two granddaughters. In 1988, Lura married Edmond Anderson who she affectionately called her "lump" (short for "sugar lump"). She and Edmond had to move back to Kansas City as they began to age. They lived at Palestine North until their health necessitated nursing care.
Lura dearly loved her Bethel Church Family, where she served as Head Usher and in other areas. The Stewardesses often accompanied the pastor to serve her and her husband communion. Her church family never forgot her, they visited her, sent cards, and money. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Willie Warren, Wesley Cleveland, Estella Swindell, Lillian McKittrick, Christina Pierson, and Dorothy Porter. She is survived by her step-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Lura E. Anderson were held on September 13 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 2329 Flora.
