Eleanor was a dedicated homemaker, loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known for her culinary and baking skills and was an avid bridge player. For many years, she volunteered at Morris Hospital.
She was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on November 24, 1918 and raised in Chicago, she spent most of her married life in Joliet and Morris.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Roger Ashamy; parents, Joseph and Matilda (nee Carlson) Bjornson.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon (Ray) Skaggs of Joliet and Cori (Marc) Fuchs of Springfield; grandchildren, Kim (Eric Magee), Becky (Brad) Foster, Patrick and Maureen Skaggs; and great-grandchildren, Abbey and Luke Foster, Burke Magee.
Visitation: Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Funeral Arrangements under the direction of Fred C. Dames Funeral Home
Her family would like to thank all those at The Inn at Willow Falls for the kindness and compassion shown to Eleanor her last four years with them.
Funeral services: Eleanor E. Ashamy will be Wednesday September 11, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church where a mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
