Hugh Hines McDaniel II passed away on May 22, 2012 in San Diego, CA. He was born in Englewood, NJ on January 23, 1940, eldest of three children of Hugh Hines McDaniel Jr. and Louise Nimitz McDaniel.

Survived by brother, Carl N. McDaniel; sister, Susan H. McDaniel and former wife, Kristina Craig.

Hugh graduated Wauwatosa Senior High School and earned a BA in history from Texas A&M University and was a member of A&M's elite Ross Volunteers and a lifelong supporter of A&M.

He graduated from Naval Officer Candidate School. He served on the USS Maury (AGS 16) at US Naval Station Adak in Alaska, was captain of a Swift Boat in Vietnam and served one year at NavSupPact Saigon, South Vietnam. Hugh attended Navy Supply Corps School. He served two years as Supply Officer on USS O'Callahan and on staffs of ComCruDesPac and ComPhibPac in San Diego, CA. After 25 years of active and reserve duty, Commander McDaniel transferred to the Retired Naval Reserve in 1989.

While stationed in San Diego, Hugh began his real estate career. In 1973, he joined Forest E. Olson Realtors as broker and salesman. Over 40 years he worked for Realty Executives, McMillin, Coldwell Banker, San Diego Board of Realtors, Torrance-Lomita-Carson Board of Realtors, and formed The McDaniel Company. From November 1982 to November 1983, Hugh was employed by HBH Company as a supply specialist at King Abdulaziz Naval Base, Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia.

Hugh enjoyed sailing and exercising, especially running and bicycling. He captained his high school track and cross country teams, and ran a 3.5 hour marathon in Saudi Arabia. Hugh was not only a frequent participant in various exercise classes at the Mission Valley YMCA but also a key volunteer in the 1980s. From childhood Hugh had a fondness for cats and always shared his home with at least one cat. A life-long member of the San Diego Yacht Club, Hugh volunteered myriad hours assisting with weekend races, organizing blood drives, participating on various committees, and enjoyed going to the Club with friends and colleagues to eat, drink, and watch basketball and football games.

Hugh will be buried among McDaniel relatives in Peoria Cemetery, Peoria, TX.
