Doran Thomas Allen, Jr., 69, of Connersville, passed away Tuesday evening, September 3, 2013, at Decatur Township Care and Rehab Center of Indianapolis, following a brief battle with cancer.
The oldest of five children, he was born July 12, 1944 in Fayette County, Indiana, the son of Doran Thomas and Gloria Ann Bailey Allen; he was a 1962 graduate of Connersville High School.
From 1963 until 1967, he served with the US Navy, was stationed on a submarine for a brief time and, following his honorable discharge in 1967, he returned to Indiana for residence.
For more than twenty-five years, he served as secretary/manager for several area Moose Lodges, namely, Shelbyville, Greenwood and, in 1984, Connersville.
A lifetime member of the Moose Lodge, in 1978, he became a Post Moose Legion President and Moose Legionnaire, a member of the 40 et 8 #1040 and the Eagles Lodge Aerie #1065, all of Connersville.
Survivors include a son, John G. Allen and his wife Julie of Indianapolis, two grandsons, Evan and Sam Allen, both of Indianapolis, his mother, Gloria Allen of Connersville, four siblings, Jane Stidham and her husband Clint of Phoenix, Arizona, Mark Allen and his wife Edith Rice of Olympia, Washington, Joan Brockman and her husband Mark of Connersville and Lisa Campbell and her husband Brett of St. Louis, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Doran T. Allen, Sr., who died June 22, 1999.
