John Jennings, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 10, 2004. He was 79, a native of Winnfield and a resident of Baton Rouge for more than 70 years. A retired personnel manager for the Borden Chemical Co. in Geismar, he was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He flew combat with the 44th Bombadier Group in the European Theater. Visiting at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Tuesday, April 13, 2004, from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Michael J. Moroney. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie Monticello Jennings; son and daughter-in-law, John and Marcia Jennings of Baton Rouge; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dan Mackey of Lafayette; and five grandchildren, John and Ellen Jennings, both of Baton Rouge and Stephen, Lauren and Erin Mackey, all of Lafayette. Preceded in death by his parents, Pinkie E. and Vada Mae Jennings. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, John Jennings, Stephen Mackey, Dan Mackey, Tony Compagno, John Pott and Tommy Rizzuto. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Bolton, Hal Butt, Fritz Falcon, Tony Hobgood, Charles Martin, Malcolm Windham and Jesse York. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations to St. Thomas More Building Fund or Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., in charge of arrangements.
