Nellie Hedrick Brown, the daughter of George and Fanny Hedrick, was born on the 16th day of March, 1854, near West Salem, Ill.

She departed this life at her home in West Salem, after a short illness, on the 11th day of September, 1938. She was 84 years, 5 months, and 25 days of age at the time of her death.

As a child, she grew up in the vicinity of West Salem, where her entire life has been pent in and around the community of West Salem.

In 1871, she was united in marriage with William Woods, and to this happy union, three children were born. One of which was Herman G., of Princeton, Ind., has preceded
her in death, also the husband and father, William in 1892.

About 30 years ago she was married to Joseph Brown, who passed away about five years ago. Since his passing, Mrs. Brown has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Hattie M. Douglas.

In infancy she was baptized in the Moravian Church and was a faithful and active member there, for several years.

When she married Mr. Brown, her church membership was transferred to the Christian church, of which she remained a member until death. She was very active in the work of this church, teaching for several years the Loyal Mother's class. Until ill health and the infirmities of age crept upon her she has been a faithful and loyal worker.

She leaves to mourn her departure a daughter, Mrs. Hattie M. Douglas, West Salem; a son, William L. Woods of Atlanta, Ill.; one brother, A. L. Hedrick, of West Salem; a sister, Mrs. Emma Ridgley, of Calhoun. She also leaves six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great- grandchildren, besides nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the home in the north part of town on Tuesday afternoon Sept. 13, in charge of Hugh M. Ridlen, pastor of the local Christian Church.

Burial was made in the Moravian cemetery.
