Edward John Fredrick Fetzer passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday (Aug. 29, 2013).

He was born in Pleasant Plains, the son of Edward John Fredrick Sr. and Louise Hagen Fetzer on April 21, 1921.

He attended Trinity Lutheran School, Springfield, and graduate from Pleasant Plains High School. He entered the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942 and served in the European Theater, with a total of 75 missions, earning the Pre-Pearl Harbor Medal, the European Theater Medal, the Victory Medal, the Silver and Bronze Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He left the service in 1946 with the rank of captain.

He married Constance E. Roos in 1946, and they celebrated their 67th anniversary on Aug. 25, 2013.

In 1985, he retired as a crop hail adjuster with American States Insurance Co. and moved from their Ottawa residence to St. Germain, Wis. They moved to Bloomington in 1996 and he passed away at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle, where he was a resident for the past two years.

He is survived by his son, E. Ronald (Marcia) Fetzer, Bloomington; daughter, Carole (Chuck) Bolatto, Marseilles; grandchildren, Amanda (Dan) Fischer and Mark (Kristal) Fetzer, both of Bloomington; Chad Bolatto, Marseilles; and Callie (Michael) Dunbar, Morris; and great-granchildren, Lauren and Paige Fischer, and Conner Fetzer, all of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Elouise Fetzer Taylor and Helen Fetzer Abney.

His funeral will be today beginning with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 311 Hershey Road, Normal.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Mark, Chad, Dan and Michael.
