Donald Anthony D'Amico, 56, of Farmington, passed away surrounded by his family, following a brief illness on Monday, August 5, 2013.
Born in New Britain on September 17, 1956, Don was one of five children to the late Anthony and Ann Marie (Tinty) D'Amico.
Don was a 1974 graduate of Plainville High School, and after attending Providence College, joined his father and brothers in their family business, D'Amico Construction. Following in his father's footsteps, he was a tireless worker, a sharp business man and skilled machine operator, running the business alongside his brothers for more than 20 years, and building a vast network of friends.
Don married his classmate, Laura Moreno in 1985, and settled in Farmington where they raised their family of four that brought Don the greatest amount of joy. He was an exemplary family man, sharing a special bond with each of his children, creating fun and meaningful traditions and many cherished memories. He enjoyed traveling and the many family trips to Florida, playing set-back and passing along his game playing skills to his family, visits to Las Vegas, and above all supporting his children in their many endeavors.
Don was a sports enthusiast, who looked forward to playing his weekly Thursday night basketball games or cheering on the UCONN women and never missed a Giants game or left the house without his Giants hat on. -
Don will be greatly missed, leaving a legacy of selflessness, hard work, and the utmost love for his family.
In addition to his wife, Laura, he leaves his children, Nicole Vibert and her husband, Keith, Joseph, James, and Jenna; his brothers, William and his wife, Elizabeth and Marc and his wife, Laurene; his sisters, Marisa D'Amico and Larry Reola and Merilee D'Amico and Jim Dombrowski; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services in celebration of Don's life will be held on Friday at 9 a.m. from Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Committal services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may gather on Thursday evening, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, Don may be remembered with contributions to the local charity of one's choice.
