Charles McCollum, 82
— Charles B. ?Charlie? McCollum, 82, of Fruitland Park, Fla., formerly of Richmond, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, in his home in Florida.
A native of Owsley County, he was the son of the late Charles G. and Mary Farley McCollum. He was a retired merchandising representative for Texaco and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII.
Mr. McCollum was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. in Richmond and Lexington and of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity at the University of Kentucky. He was an avid UK Wildcat basketball and football fan. He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Fruitland Park, Fla.
He is survived by: his loving wife, Maxine Ruffner McCollum of Fruitland Park; one daughter, Priscilla Hughes (Steven) of Ocala, Fla.; one son, Joseph M. McCollum (Mary) of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Katie and T. J. Hughes, Melissa Hadden (Montgomery) and Matthew McCollum; and one great-grandson, Chase Payne.
Services will be held at 11a.m. Tuesday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home, Barnes Mill Road in Richmond, with the Rev. Michael Fordham officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell.
Pallbearers are Stephen Ruffner, David Ruffner, Mark Moberly, John Lane Storner, Craig Combs, Clark Combs, Danny Reynolds, Earl Combs III, Kevin Reynolds and Chris Conner.
Honorary bearers are Earl Sutton, Bill Althauser, Glenmore Jones, John Conner, Hugh Coy, Stafford Nelson, Bobby Jennings, Vince Karoll, Wilson Bond and Charlie Coy.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Hospice of Lake Sumter, 12300 Lane Park Rd., Tavares, FL 32778 or the Community United Methodist Church of Fruitland Park, Fla.
